CEO Report-May 2021
• Covid – we are still quarantining clients upon entry unless they are fully vaccinated. Census is running 75-80. We are having to limit the census due to a shortage of counselors.
• Our struggle with hiring has continued and we have enlisted the help of a few staffing agencies – without great success. We currently have 31 full time staff and typically run 42-46.
• All supplemental payments related to a COVID accommodation by our funders have ended.
• Our CARF survey in May went very well, with no nonconformance to standards, but will have a few procedural recommendations. Should receive notice very shortly.
• We have paid off the loan with the City of Fort Lauderdale that originated in 2011 for $223,000. We are awaiting confirmation from the city.
• We had a meeting with Gordon Latz from the Harry T Mangurian Jr. foundation. He was able to secure a $20,000 dollar donation for the roof on the men’s dorm. The cost of the roof in about $31,000. We plan to move forward with the roof.
• We are working on a new video for House of Hope and a thank you video to be used with those who have given in the past.
• We are working on corporate outreach to partner with local corporations. We will also use this opportunity to seek board members.
• Representatives from the Salah foundation met with us at Stepping Stones and as a result that asked that we submit a grant for $70,000 for case managers. We hope to receive work very shortly.
• We toured key leaders from the Goodwin foundation and they have asked for background and financial information which we have sent. We hope to hear back shortly.
• We have signed up with a company affiliated with Walgreens to be on a list in April that will be an opportunity for people to give their rewards points to House of Hope.
• Facebook has paused our account because they somehow felt something was inappropriate. It is very difficult to speak with anyone there, however we are in cue for review and are seeking a resolution.
• We are preparing for audit – pre-work is scheduled to begin later this month.
• Several grants we have written require us to share the percentage of Board members who have donated. Some ask the amounts. While several have given, I would like to ask that those who have not to consider a donation. It can be any amount, but it would be helpful in our grant writing. As you move up from simpler grants to more sophisticated funders, they typically ask percentage who have donated.
